When I travel I seem to have permission to take photos of people that I would not feel comfortable doing here at home, its a cultural thing. My first train ride in Kobe I was ready with my camera for anything. Suddenly in a space between the crowd there was a lady with the light shining on her face, and tears on her cheek. I will never forget that moment.
Some of these photos try to illustrate some cultural connections between Japan and USA or Japan and the West. The little girl in front of the storefront with probably her father is gazing at two cultural icons; wedding kimono and white wedding dress.
Bottom are photos from Hiroshima, a good place to go and have a good cry. And last is Kobe Christmas light festival with flags from two countries that I hope will remain friends-tomodachi!
